Everywhere You Go... The Spirit Of Christmas Can Be Found

    Everywhere you go in Rutherford County, the Christmas season can be seen. From the shops in the Village of Chimney Rock, to the glistening, reflective waters of Lake Lure, and the wreaths, bows and lights embracing the homes in Cliffside, Caroleen and Henrietta - the outward display of our impending celebration of Christmastime comes to Rutherford County.

     Somehow when you walk the streets of Rutherfordton and Spindale, the smiling faces and friendly greetings seem to lift you up. Yes, no matter what our age, we are all kids once again. Within the churches of our county, you can hear the choirs practicing their Christmas musical programs. Voices on high!

     Add to this scene, the shops that are crowded with Santa’s helpers in anticipation of the night before Christmas. The smell of fresh Christmas trees for sale becomes the perfume of the season.

     Ruth is all lit up with Christmas greetings. The Green Hill Community explodes with Christmas cheer. Forest City, once again, becomes our magical city of lights! It truly is a winter wonderland. The popular horse drawn carriage rides, choirs singing those special songs of Christmas and Santa’s House welcoming all the children. A cup of hot chocolate with lots of marshmallows just seems to taste so much better as we are overwhelmed by the thousands of lights wrapped around the trees, glistening overhead, and depicting characters of the season. As you enter the city, “Peace On Earth” greets you spelled out in white lights. The bah-humbug attitude disappears and we acknowledge even strangers happily as they pass by. Parents, grandparents and caregivers, wait patiently outside Santa’s house with children whose wonder-lust eyes tell the tale. Each believer, waits to sit on Santa’s knee and tell the jolly old man the list of “I wants”. As Santa grants their wish with a ho-ho-ho, he reminds them not to be naughty, but nice. The jolly old man also reminds them to leave him some cookies and milk, and even some carrots for his reindeer on Christmas eve. Also, how can we forget “Santa Paws” when your favorite pet can visit Santa and you get a keepsake picture.

     It just gets better and better as we continue to build a crescendo of good will, happiness and holiday spirit. December 25 - the special day when we celebrate the birthday of Jesus! Happy birthday to our child in the manager. Thank you for everything and please help us to embrace your true spirit of love throughout the year. Yes, it’s beginning to look and feel a lot like Christmas! It’s a wonderful, loving time of the year all over Rutherford County. Gee, why can’t we retain that wonderful attitude every day of the year.

     By the way, please don’t forget Santa’s special people, our men and women in the Armed Forces. They still believe and love to receive!
