Students in fourth grade across Rutherford County took part in the 2016 Farm City Poster Contest last year. The winners were presented with their cash prices during assemblies held at each school. The theme for the contest was "Grow It-Make It-Use It," and during assemblies students learned that agriculture is the largest industry in the state, said Jeff Bradley, county extension director. Winners for the contest were first place, Laya Norris of Forrest Hunt, who received $75; second place, Jonathon Coleman of Spindale, who won $50; and third place, Tara Henson of Mount Vernon-Ruth, who won $25. Honorable mentions received $20. They are: Paloma Rodriguez of Cliffside; Anastyn Galloway of Harris (pictured); Blaine Jackson of Rutherfordton; Shaylin Stephenson of Pinnacle; Jasmyne Dsouza of Sunshine; Harlee Southerland of Forest City-Dunbar; and Troy Pitchford of Ellenboro.
