PrintChase Corner Ministry, across the road from Chase High School, provides three food ministries, according to Cynthia Cooper, the agency's director. Emergency canned food is given out Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
According to the agency's website, "Families may receive food from Chase Corner Ministries' Emergency Food Pantry by appointment. Families may receive a food box if they are in an emergency and it is not yet time for them to get their USDA food, or they do not qualify for USDA food. A family may get a food box in addition to their USDA food if they are in an emergency situation. Food boxes are distributed on a case by case basis depending on how many people are in a family, the families' individual needs, and what food is currently stocked in our pantry.
"Where does the food pantry food come from? Food pantry items come from churches and individuals who have generously given to feed those in need in our community. If you would like to give items to be used for our pantry, you may bring items between the hours of 8:30-2:00 p.m. Monday-Friday or contact the director to arrange pick up. We are most grateful for all donations. We need items such as canned vegetables, canned meat, and canned fruit. Boxed food is also appreciated. We also welcome toiletry items such as: soap, toilet tissue, feminine products, shampoo, etc. When we receive items such as diapers for adults and babies, we distribute those to needy families. Other items requested are things like laundry detergent. Monetary gifts also help us stock this pantry."
Cooper said a Second Harvest food truck is also scheduled for Sept. 22 at Concord Baptist Church which is just up the road from East High School. That's at 720 Old U.S. 74, Bostic. She said details about who qualifies for that food are on the website, but added, "With people working reduced hours and many people out of work, most people qualify."
The third form of Chase food distribution takes place each Wednesday, 9-2 with food coming from USDA surplus food. The website gives these guidelines for this distribution: "Every Wednesday this ministry provides USDA food from 9am-2pm. If your family qualifies, you must fill out our Chase Ministries' Crisis Application once and a Second Harvest application every time you receive food. Each eligible family receiving food will only receive USDA once every two months. You will be given a card reminding you when you can come back to receive USDA food again. The selection and amount of food given each month will vary and depend on what is delivered to the ministry from the Second Harvest Food Bank. Each family, regardless of the number of people within the family, will receive the same amount of food until that item runs out."
On October 29, a special Covid19 distribution of toiletries, diapers, and other items will take place at Harvest House in Henrietta. Persons seeking these items are encouraged to arrive by 8 and be prepared to wait as the distribution will require paperwork. Once all items are distributed, which Cooper estimates will happen around noon, interviews will begin for financial help with utilities and other such needs. Funds for that effort are being distributed through the United Way's Covid Relief Fund.
