Frances McKinney Hawk, age 66 of Forest City passed away September 29, 2018. Frances was born February 7, 1952 in Cleveland County, and was a daughter of the late John and Aileen Crowder McKinney. Frances was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Forest City and a graduate of East Rutherford High School and the University of NC at Chapel Hill. Following her graduation, Frances attended Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston- Salem where she earned the distinction of becoming one of the first Ultra Sound Technicians. Her hobbies included the love of working complex puzzles and counted cross-stitch. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Byrd, III. Survivors include her son, Tim Hawk of Hendersonville, a sister, Mary Elizabeth McKinney Taylor of Forest City, and her nephews, Casey McMahon of Rutherfordton and Patrick McMahon of Barcelona, Spain. Memorials may be made to NAMI-South Mountain, 124 S. Powell Street, Forest City, North Carolina 28043 A memorial service is planned for a later date and will be announced.
