Franklin Sprouse, age 82, formerly of Forest City, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017.

He was husband to the late Evelyn McDaniel Sprouse and son of the late Ben B. and Ada Vickers Sprouse. Franklin was also predeceased by his son, Joey and daughter-in-law, Sandy, and a grandson; as well as brothers Garland, Delmar, Elmer and a sister, Reva Sprouse Bennett.

Franklin retired from Rutherford County Schools where he worked many years as custodian at Forest City Elementary School. There he was affectionately known as "Sprouse" to his co-workers. He touched the lives of two generations of children over his years of service and always went out of his way to encourage kids, especially those dealing with challenges.

Outside the workplace, Franklin was involved with youth baseball and Scouting. He also raised goats, much to the joy of neighborhood kids. In his later years, he associated with The Encouraging Word Ministry of Spartanburg and, more recently, with Unity Baptist Church of Winston Salem.

A graveside service was held at the Eternal Hills Memorial Park with Pastor Benny Sprouse and the Rev. Mike Ennis officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Unity Baptist Church, 145 Fishel Road, Winston Salem, NC 27107.

The Padgett & King Mortuary is serving the family.
