Fred Dupree Rhodes, 83, of Rutherfordton, passed away Tuesday January 6, 2015. 

He was born February 3, 1931, a native of Rutherford County and was the son of the Late Sherdie L. and Ollie Mae Lyda Rhodes.

Fred is survived by his wife of 59 years Laura Helen LaFever Rhodes, three daughters Laura Renea Terrell of Simpsonville, SC, Rhvonda Rhodes Redmon of Forest City, NC and Paula Rashelle Cresci and husband Brian of Mooresville, NC, four grandchildren, Kaitlyn Laughter, Nicholas Cresci, MacKenzie Cresci and Megan Cresci. He is also survived by one sister Elsie Hamrick of Conway, SC and one brother Judd Rhodes and wife Margaret of Rutherfordton, NC as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his brother Ed Rhodes and two sisters Doris Rhodes and Jean Russell.

Fred retired from Thompson Contractors of Rutherfordton, NC in 1999 after 40 years of employment. He was an active member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church for 52 years where he served as Sunday School Director for 40 years as well as Chairman of Deacons. Fred also served in the army, was on the board for the Green Hill VFD and the Green Hill Community Center. He was active with Gideons International for over 50 years.

Funeral services were held at Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Rutherfordton, NC with Rev. John Edward, Rev. Marcus Redding and Rev. Lewis Jackson officiating. Burial was held in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Rutherford County P.O. Box 336 Forest City NC 28043.
