On December 7, JoAnne Ellingson, Lake Lure Olympiad treasurer, presented the Rutherford County Friends of the Guardians ad Litem with a generous check. The donation supports the recruitment and education programs of the Guardians, resulting in better service to the abused and neglected children of Rutherford County.

The Friends of the Guardians ad Litem is an organization dedicated to training and supporting child advocate volunteers in Rutherford County. A Guardian ad Litem is a trained community volunteer child advocate who is appointed, along with a Guardian ad Litem attorney, by a district court judge to investigate and determine the needs of abused and neglected children. The child advocate argues for the best interest of the child.

The Guardian ad Litem Program of Rutherford County is currently in need of volunteer child advocates. We currently have over 50 children in the foster care system in need of an advocate. Training is provided as well as support from the local Guardian ad Litem staff.
