Gene Edson Short, 76, of Ellenboro, passed away on Friday, September 06, 2013. 

A native of Rutherford County, he was born on September 03, 1937, a son of the late Andrew Jackson “Jack” Short and Iver Brackett Short. He was a retired Brick Mason and of the Baptist Faith. Mr. Short was also a U.S. Army Veteran.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Lee Short and Johnny Short; one sister, Georgia Roach.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda McClellan Short; two sons, Scott L. Short and wife Kathy of Forest City and Chad L. Short of the home; two daughters, Connie Short White and husband Billy of Lincolnton and Karen Short Hensley and husband Mark of Bostic; two brothers, Robert “Dick” Short and Paul Short; sisters, Betty Brooks, Madeline Biggerstaff, Jennie Mae Nolen and Mary Mize; his grandchildren, Joshua and Matthew White, Brian, Christopher, and Michael Short, Courtney Hensley, Jennifer Pegram, Ashley Scruggs and husband Anthony, and Joe Short; step-grandchildren, Chris Stacey, Rebecca Lane, Amanda Faulkner; one great granddaughter, Nevaeh Short.

Funeral services were held at Crestview Baptist Church of Forest City with the Rev. Kevin Rohm and Rev. Bob Philbeck officiating. Burial followed in the Veterans Section of Eternal Hills Memorial Park (formerly Sunset Cemetery) with Military Rites accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.
