George Dewey White, age 87 of Forest City passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016.

He was born on June 20, 1929 in Rutherford County and was a son of the late Memory Dewey and Mae Belle Blake White. George was the owner and operator of George White Grocery for fifty one years in the Danieltown Community. He was a member of Sulphur Springs Congregational Holiness Church and a founding member of the former Danieltown Fire Department now S.D. O. Fire Department. He served for many years on the fire department Board of Directors and was currently serving as the representative for S.D.O. Fire Department on the Fireman's Relief Fund Board.

George was a Master Mason and was a member of the former Spindale Masonic Lodge until it was merged with the Western Star Lodge in Rutherfordton. He enjoyed Blue Grass music and was an avid knife collector. His wife, Elizabeth Greene White and his sister, Jean White Baynard preceded him in death.

Survivors include his son, Marcus White and wife Donna of Forest City, a brother, Ted White and wife Jessie of Forest City, three grandchildren, as well as a very special and dear friend, Faye Hopper of Forest City.

The Funeral service was held in the Sulphur Springs Congregational Holiness Church. Interment followed in the Eternal Hills Memorial Park. The family respectfully request that memorials be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

The Padgett and King Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
