George “Frank” Lee, age 93

George “Frank” Lee, age 93, of Rutherfordton, NC, passed away Thursday, September 13, 2012.

Frank was born September 24, 1918 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Jacob Astor Lee and Sallie Philbeck Lee.  He was a graduate of Piedmont High School, class of 1936 and Lee’s-McRae College.  He served in the US Army and was a veteran of World War II, having served for two tours of duty.  He was a carpenter most of his life and also worked as a jailer for the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department.    

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Greene Lee; one son, Larry Lee; five brothers, Shannon, Lowell, Harold, Marvin and Boyd Lee.

Left to cherish his memory are his six children, Patricia Weaver of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Judy Robbins and husband, Clyde of Gaffney, Robert Lee of Mooresboro, Donald Lee and wife, Kim, Suzie Lee Brackett, Jeff Lee and wife, Cheryl all of Rutherfordton; two sisters, Nadine Johnson of Shelby and Melba Callahan of Columbia, SC; four sisters in-law, Betty Lee of Newton, NC, Dot Lee of Shelby, Sybil Lee of Richmond, VA and Virginia Reid of Cliffside. He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services were conducted at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Brent Frady and Reverend Tom Frady officiating.  Interment followed in Cleveland Memorial Park with military honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. 

The family would like to give a special thanks to Hospice of Rutherford County for their compassionate care and to Frank’s beloved daughter in-law, Kim, for her wonderful love and care during the last ten years.
