George William "G.W." Jones, Sr., age 84

George William "G.W." Jones, Sr., age 84 of Ellenboro passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017.

G.W. was born on August 14, 1932 in Rutherford County and was a son of the late Thomas Odell Jones and Louise Smart Jones. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church and he retired from Dover Textiles. He also served in the United States Navy during the Korean War on the USS Salem and the USS Iowa. G.W. was a member of the Woodmen of the World, Ellenboro Camp. His wife Syble Walker Jones preceded him in death in 2006.

Survivors include his son, Junior Jones of Ellenboro, a daughter, Debra Jones Brown of Ellenboro, a brother, Clyde Jones of Cliffside and a sister, Donnis Smith of Ellenboro. There are four grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Corinth Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Conner and Rev. Ad Hopper officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with military honors accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.
