Girl Scout cookies have now arrived in Rutherford County, and the top seller for 2015 is working to meet or beat her total from last year.

"I sold 864 boxes of cookies," said Meghan Melton, who has been a Girl Scout for eight years. The high school freshman said she sold cookies at Tony's Produce in Rutherfordton, at her church and at her parents' work.

In the past Melton had only sold around 300 boxes. Her Troop leader, Linc McDaniel, helped with her success by providing cookies for her to always have on hand.

"We were surprised by how many boxes she sold, because we weren't really counting them," said Melton's mom, Stacey Brown.

For her efforts, Melton received four tickets to Wet & Wild Water Park. While there, those who sold 500 or more boxes of cookies had their name placed into a drawing for a scholarship. Melton was a recipient of a $1,000 scholarship, which will come in handy in a few years when she begins college, her mom said.

Melton is also the daughter of Steve Brown, and is a member of Troop 1891.

Girl Scout cookies are $4 per box. Cookie booths are scheduled for locations around Rutherford County, including Walmart.
