Rutherford County Habitat for Humanity will be holding its Second Annual "Hammering for Heroes" build, which will honor and memorialize heroes of 9/11, on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Habitat's Hopeview Estates subdivision in Spindale.

The event will begin with a program with representatives of all military branches as well as personnel from local police, fire and emergency medical departments. Colors will be presented and a local artist will perform the National Anthem. A time of remembrance will be held for those who lost their lives that day as well as though who gave of themselves to help.

Volunteer opportunities are available for all age groups. Those ages 6 to 15 will provide yard work for local seniors in the community. Ages 16 and older will be working on projects for local veterans or on construction sites for houses that are already in progress. The Women Roofers will also be taking on a repair project.

If you would like to be part of "Hammering for Heroes," contact Sheila Cain at 828-245-0716 or Kim Freeman at 248-3178 at the Habitat office.
