Harry B. Goforth, Jr., 91 went to be with our Lord on April 29, 2015.

Born in Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Harry B. Goforth, Sr. and Laura Greene Goforth. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Mary Helen Owens Goforth. He is survived by his daughters Debbie McPherson and husband Mike; Jenny Brown and husband Rick; three grandchildren - Jessica Matthews and husband Seth, Ashley Traynham and husband Michael, Sydney Bargeloh and husband Zack; three great grandchildren and his loving fiancée Joyce Buckaloo.

Harry attended R.S. Central High School and Clemson University and served his country during World War Two by serving in the Navy where he participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy in 1944. Harry worked for Spindale Mills in various supervisory positions for over 45 years after which he followed his love of golf to another career. He was known as "Candy Man" for always having a bag of candy to hand out while working at Fairfield Mountains Golf Course as a Ranger. He later worked at Meadowbrook Golf Course as well. In addition to his love of golf Harry was a 33rd Degree Mason and a past Master of Spindale Masonic Lodge #673 where he was a lifetime member. He was also a proud member of the Oasis Shrine and was an avid Ham Radio Operator, known for his call letters K4PZL.

Harry loved his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a friend to all meeting everyone with a kind word. When asked how he was he would always answer "Absolutely Marvelous!" and his huge, infectious smile and quick wit will be greatly missed by his many friends who knew him as "Handsome Harry".

A celebration of Harry's life was held in the Chapel at Crowe's Mortuary with Rev. Everett Chapman officiating. Concluding services included Military Honors provided by the Rutherford County Honor Guard at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Rutherford County Honor Guard; 303 Fairground Road Spindale NC 28160, Oasis Shrine; 604 Doug Mayes Place Charlotte, NC 28262 or Florence Baptist Church 201 S. Broadway St. Forest City, NC 28043.
