Helen Duncan Hill age 99, of NYC, formerly of Spindale, passed away Wednesday July 20th, 2016.

Helen was born in Spindale, NC on May 18, 1917 to Oscar Duncan and Margaret Beam Duncan. In 1940, Helen married Robert Bruce Hill. They were long time members of the First Baptist Church in Spindale, in which her grandfather, Oscar Duncan, was a founding member.

Helen and Bruce taught a young adult Sunday School Class where they not only taught Scripture, but became friends and counselors to these young couples.

Helen worked for the Sun Finance Corp. in Forest City. She became the first woman to be promoted to the position of manager, where she trained young men as well as young women for managerial positions. Eventually, she was promoted to the position of supervisor and won many awards along the way. Helen was a pioneer in the working world and her work in management was groundbreaking in her day. She went on to help other women in the work place.

Helen was an excellent baker and excelled in her one-of-a kind wedding cakes. She and husband Bruce spent their retirement years traveling the world. Helen spent her last years in New York with their daughter, Mardi Fritz.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Robert Bruce Hill and her parents Oscar and Margaret Beam Duncan.

A celebration of life was held at Crowe's Funeral Chapel with Rev. Taylor Mack Hill officiating.

Crowe's Mortuary is assisting the family.
