Helen Flack Cole, age 91

Helen Flack Cole, age 91, of Lenoir, NC, and recently a resident with her son in Greensboro, NC, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2016.

Born in Rutherfordton on November 19, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Roswell Flack and Emma Harrill Flack and widow of Rush Hartie Cole, a native of Rutherford County, who passed in Lenoir in 1986. She was preceded in death by five brothers: John Wilton Flack, Andrew Lionel Flack, Betram Roswell Flack, Ralph Kenneth Flack and Mays Harrill Flack.

Mrs. Cole was a 1945 graduate of Limestone College and a former teacher in the public schools of Rutherford County. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Lenoir, where she often played piano both in church and at Sunday School, and was also an RSVP volunteer.

She loved being independent, cooking for her family, yard work, and helping friends and neighbors. She also liked to window shop in antique stores and visit historic sites, especially old homes. Though she left Rutherfordton in 1951, the town never ceased to be important to her and she frequently visited, if only to have lunch and shop a little bit on Main Street.

Her faith was very important to her, and she read the Bible through several

times.

Following an illness in August, 2014, Mrs. Cole resided with her son Tim, and spent many of her days at the Adult Center for Enrichment adult daycare center in Greensboro while her son worked. At that facility she was affectionately called "Miss Helen," and loved by all.

She is survived by two sons, Gerald Roswell Cole of Atlanta, GA, and John Timothy Cole, of Greensboro, NC, two grandsons and two great-granddaughters.

The graveside service was held at Rutherfordton City Cemetery with Reverend Tim Marsh officiating.
