Chase, R-S Central, East Rutherford sit second, third and fourth in the SMAC at the moment with one loss each. Chase had two early week home games this week, but come back to the house on 3/24 to face East Burke. R-S Central will host a key game with Kings Mountain on 3/18. East Rutherford's biggest game comes when they host Crest on 3/22.

High School Softball

R-S Central (4-1) tops the SMAC and has been pretty stout so far, but they lost their first game of the season to Brevard this past week. They go to East Burke on 3/22 and host East Rutherford on 3/24, as both should be tough games.

East Rutherford (2-2) has been up and down so far this season. They are a little confusing and still getting into the swing of things. Schedule wise, has not been easy so far either. I'm not counting them out by any means.

Chase (3-3) is venturing the same path as East right now in the early going. Both teams are staying in games, but one area seems to lack from one game to the next whether it be pitching, defense or hitting. Still, the Lady Trojans are a formidable opponent and I expect that to continue this season.

Girls Soccer

R-S Central and East Rutherford sit second and third in SMAC play. Those two will play each other at R-S Central on 3/24 and that should be a really good match up. Chase just picked up it's biggest win of the year this past week and sit seventh currently in the SMAC.

NCAA Tourney

Well, I was right about the Tarheels winning the ACC Tourney, but what about "The Big Dance."

There is too much parody in the game and nobody is really safe in this year's field. Upsets are likely, but I wouldn't that any of those will be that big of a surprise until the tourney goes deeper.

Anyhow, I don't think Duke gets past Oregon. Virginia gets knocked out by either Purdue of Michigan St. I could see UVA going farther, but that's my gut feeling.

My Final Four...give me UNC, Michigan St., Kansas and Oklahoma. UNC-Kansas in the finals. Kansas winning it all.

NASCAR

Denny Hamlin won the Daytona 500 in a close finish and now Kevin Harvick does the same thing in Phoenix. So far, the endings have been good and that's what NASCAR and the fans want to see. Still, the sport is ruled by political correctness as of late. I am still giving it a shot though.

And I don't know how Jimmie Johnson's steering wheel broke off in his hands this past weekend during a qualifying crash, but never underestimate what could happen behind the wheel of one of those cars. Johnson was okay, but that was a big hit. It will be interesting to understand the investigation into that crash.
