Men's High School hoops
R-S Central has now moved to 12-4, 2-0 and continue to show senior leadership, poise and depth in what is a very tough league in hoops play. Elijah Carson was a big factor this past week off the bench and Zyrion Wilkins continues to lead the Hilltoppers. They continue to play a little better defensively every game too. Central has a big game against East Gaston at home, Friday, the 19th.
East Rutherford (11-6, 1-2) has struggled in conference play, but have lost both league games by less than 10 points. Josh Searcy and Quay Logan have been doing their part.
Chase and Thomas Jefferson continue to struggle. They go to Shelby on Friday, the 19th.
Women's High School Basketball Hoops
East Rutherford (14-2, 3-0) continues to dominate Southwestern 2A play. Depth, size and good guard play continue to be the strength of the Lady Cavs. Will they lose a conference game? It really may not happen.
R-S Central (7-9, 1-1) ended a four game skid and continue to get better every game. They are hitting a couple of more three's and getting better defensively as we go along and that could present a problem for somebody down the road. They are very much in the driver's seat to take second in Southwestern 2A play, but there are still eight league games to go. Chase and Thomas Jefferson continue to struggle.
NFL
Jacksonville at New England
Jacksonville sure did make a statement by outlasting Pittsburgh on the road last week. Jacksonville's defense continued to score off Pittsburgh's offense and outlasted them in the playoffs to face New England. New England had no problem with the Titans after the first quarter. The Patriot offense after the first quarter looked like a Super Bowl winning offense.
I still don't trust Jacksonville to throw it down the field. Leonard Fournette is their biggest weapon, but having the defense score a couple of times too would help. The Jaguars are capable, but they won't win this game. New England 31, Jacksonville 23
Philadelphia at Minnesota
The Eagles defense and field goal kicker are very solid, but I still don't trust that offense without Carson Wentz. Defense does win games and they are going to have to turn Minnesota over and score off of that a couple times. The reason being is that the Vikings defense can match up.
I like what I saw out of Minnesota even if they won on a last second touchdown strike to Diggs who should have never seen the endzone after New Orleans had come all the way back to take the lead. I like the balance of Minnesota. Minnesota 19-10.
