It was another good week on the basketball court in the early season. Schools within the Rutherford County on the boys side sit 8-2. On the girls side, 6-5.

East Rutherford’s boys (3-0) grabbed two more wins this past week. The Cavs had a fiery second half to close out Asheville and then outlast Highland Tech on the road.

Chase (2-0) has beaten Challenger twice so far, but the caliber of teams picks up in three of the next five games. They have Mitchell, Kings Mountain and Polk between now and December 12th.

R-S Central (3-1) has been impressive thus far, but hit a brick wall in McDowel County last week. While the Hilltoppers suffered their first loss of the season, I like their potential with five seniors, six juniors and a sophomore taking turns at who they can rely on. The next five games should toughen them up even more for conference play as they travel to East Rutherford on the 18th.

In ladies basketball, East Rutherford’s Rachel Camp has gone insane averaging 32.5 points per game and put up 48 against Asheville this past week. East Rutherford sits 3-1 for now.

Chase sits 2-0 after taking down Challenger easily. Although, R-S Central is 1-3, they are still okay. I like their chances in the next seven games to get back to .500 or better.

Both Thomas Jefferson boys and girls teams have played just once and fell to the Community School of Davidson.

As we head closer postseason play here are my Top 10 NFL teams:

10) Green Bay - Still dangerous, but both sides of the ball have to pick it up.

9) Indianapolis - Is Andrew Luck, the next Brett Favre?

8) Pittsburgh - They beat Baltimore with Charlie Batch at QB who had nearly the amount of passing yards that the Ravens had in total yards. Enough said.

7) Seattle - Russell Wilson is a gamer. Should have never went to OT with Bears. Their prevent defense nearly prevented a win.

6) Baltimore - Physical on both sides. Wears down others and it still works.

5) New York Giants - No defense is more feared then this one. Nobody wants to face Eli Manning after a bye, ask the Pack.

4) Atlanta - I am still confused as to which team is which at this point. Falcons keep winning though.

3) Denver - They have the best game manager in the business. Won seven in a row now.

2) New England - Nobody maybe more powerful offensively when they get rolling. Defense still suspect.

1) Houston - They just have the complete package in an NFL team. Doesn’t mean Super Bowl, but they are in the running for sure.

On the outside: Chicago, San Francisco, Cincinnati, Minnesota and Tampa Bay.

And while we are at, teams that have fallen on hard times this season comes to mind, which brings us to another fun trivia question.

In the same year, when was the last time, the Chiefs, Jets, Eagles, Chargers, and Panthers were .500 and above at the end of a season? Answer: 2006
