It's begun to look a lot like Christmas in Forest City, and the holiday season will officially kick off Thursday night during the Annual Christmas Lighting Ceremony beginning at 6 p.m.

"It's a tradition. People come every year and bring their families," said Amy Bridges, town planer and director of downtown development.

This year should be no different. With more than a million lights, the town transforms into a holiday wonderland. While the effect looks effortless, it takes tremendous planning each year to pull off.

"We start thinking about Christmas during our January merchants' meeting when we do our wrap up," Bridges said. "We really try to have everything for the

season set by July."

"Everything" ranges from hayrides and carriage rides, Santa's House and Santa Paws, ice skating and more.

"We have a lot of elves from the Town and Merchant's Association who help," Bridges said. "It's definitely a community event."

This year the Forest City Youth Council will be selling hot cider. Proceeds from the sale will help to provide Christmas gifts to children who are less fortunate.

During Thursday's kick off, live music will be featured. The 2015 Facebook Community Grants will be awarded and the Rutherford County Chamber's raffle drawing will be held.

Christmas in Forest City events will be held as follows:

Santa's House- Fridays (Dec. 4, 11 & 18) from 6-8:30pm; Saturdays (Dec. 5, 12 & 19) from 5-8:30pm (No charge to talk to Santa; $3 for photo with Santa)

Hayrides- Fridays (Dec. 4, 11 & 18) from 6-9pm ($2 per person)
