Howard Mills "Bub" Smith, age 86

Howard Mills "Bub" Smith, age 86 of Forest City passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2017.

Howard was a son of the late Wilbur E. and Ollie Teal Smith and was reared in Forest City where he was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church and for many years, a member of the Matheny Sunday School Class. He was a graduate of Cool Springs High School and honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his discharge from military service, Howard soon began his working career with the US Postal Service at the Forest City Post Office. His hobbies were woodworking in his shop at his home where he would refinish and build furniture. Antique clocks were his favorite and he enjoyed collecting and repairing old clocks. Howard also loved to garden.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Scott Howard Smith and a brother, Robert Smith.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Faye Tate Smith of the home, a daughter, Susie Justice and husband Paul of Henderson Co, two sisters, Mary Frances Merck of Ellenboro and Joanne Rowe of Upper Marlboro, MD, and two grandsons.

The funeral service was held in the First Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Garin Hill officiating. Interment followed in the Cool Springs Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 201 West Main Street, Forest City, NC 28043.
