Hugh Donald Smith, 80

Hugh Donald Smith, 80, of Forest City, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2018.

A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Frank Smith and Pauline Lynch Smith and widower of the late Betty Vickers Smith. He worked in textiles for many years and was a US Navy veteran serving aboard the USS Ohio. He was the previous owner of Don's Cruise Agency and also loved golf, traveling, and collecting art glass. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Jack and Coy Smith, sisters, Hazel Bailey, Betty Moore, Dot Wood and Betty Ann Bailey and step-daughters, Crystal and Candice Hicks.

Survivors include his sons, Phillip Smith (Cindy) of Kings Mountain, and Jeff Smith of Forest City; a daughter, Deborah Bowen (Jimmy) of Rutherfordton; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. There are also a number of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Hospice for your care and compassion.

Graveside services were held in the Cool Springs Cemetery. Rev. Ken Linder and Rev. Terry Honeycutt officiated. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, P.O. Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043.
