Jack Laxton Conner - "Big Dog" of Union Mills, age 65 passed away Friday, December 8, 2017.

Jack was active in The Boy Scouts of America, The N.R.A., Rutherfordton Masonic Lodge, Rutherford County Wildlife Club, Gilkey Ruritan Club and was a McNair Foundation Mentor. Jack received his B.L.E.T. from Isothermal Community College and served the local community as Sheriff of Rutherford County, Chief of Police for The Town of Spindale and Fire Chief for the Town of Spindale. He was also a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Kathy Lynn Ware Conner of the home, two daughters - Julie Conner Champion and husband Timothy of Gilkey; Mandy Conner Brown and husband Johnny of Gilkey, one brother-George Lorenzo Conner of Gilkey; three sisters - Joyce Conner Ward of Gilkey, Nancy Conner Hancock of Gilkey, Linda Conner Waters of Sherrill's Ford; seven grandchildren, and one great granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents Avery Laxton and Margaret Magdeline Frady Conner.

Funeral services were held at Mountain Creek Baptist Church in Rutherfordton, with Rev. Eric Reedy officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites.

Crowe's Mortuary is assisting the family.
