James Lewis "Jim" Bruce, age 80

James Lewis "Jim" Bruce, age 80 of Caroleen passed away Monday, March 21, 2016.

Jim was born on October 11, 1935 and was the son of the late John Lewis Bruce and Faye Allen Bruce. He was a graduate of Tri High School Class of 1953 and following graduation he entered the United States Air Force where he remained until his retirement. Jim attained the rank of Master Sergeant with 20 years' service.

Following his military retirement Jim and his family returned to Rutherford County where he became an agent with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company serving families in Rutherford County for many years. Jim and his wife Jerry were volunteers with Hospice of Rutherford County when it first started in Rutherford County. He also enjoyed working at Holland Furniture in Henrietta where he enjoyed serving customers. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Forest City and was a member of Forest City Masonic Lodge No. 318, AF & AM.

Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Jerry Mitchell Bruce, his son, James L. (Butch) Bruce, II and his adopted son, Ken Tomblin, all of Rutherfordton.

A memorial service was held in the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Neil Haynes officiating. Interment of his ashes will be held privately at a later date.

The family respectfully request that memorial contributions be made to either the First United Methodist Church, Youth Fund, 341 East Main Street, Forest City, NC 28043 of Hospice of Rutherford County, Post Office Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043.
