John Ray Gettys, age 77

John Ray Gettys, age 77, of Ellenboro, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2015.

Born June 25, 1938 in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Bill Gettys and Nannie Sue Morehead Gettys. He worked for Hamrick Mills-Musgrove Plant for many years and in textiles total of forty-five years before retirement. He was a faithful member of Campfield Memorial Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, trustee, Sunday School Secretary and a member of the Carolina Faith Riders Ministry. He was an avid Go Kart Racing enthusiast and enjoyed racing and working on Go Karts.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-one years, Gladys Toney Gettys and an infant grandson, Ethan Michael Gettys.

Survivors include son, Mike Gettys and wife, Melissa of Ellenboro; brother, Bobby Gettys, Sr. and wife, Carol also of Ellenboro; uncle, Clifford Gettys of Hendersonville, NC. He is also survived by three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren,.

Funeral services were conducted at the Campfield Memorial Baptist Church with Reverend Scott Huffman officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
