John William Hughes, 70, of Rutherfordton, passed away  October 26th 2013. 

A native of Newburgh, NY, he was the son of the late Charles Hughes and Frances Hawes Wilcutt. He was a veteran of the US Marines, owner of Jack Hughes Heating and Cooling in Grand Haven, MI and Ticonderoga, NY, and a member of Second Baptist Church. Jack ran My Brother’s Keeper Food Pantry for six years and made many walking sticks for fellow military veterans. He was an active member of the NC Baptist Men’s Disaster Relief team working in Mississippi after Katrina. Jack also served in recovery and rebuilding after Hurricane Sandy.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Judith Fisher Hughes of the home; two daughters, Beth Miller and husband Jonathan of Greer, SC, Sharon Smith and husband Cliff of Due West, SC; two sons, John Daniel Hughes and wife Brenda of Easley, SC, Donald William Hughes and wife Shellie of Colorado Springs, CO; seven grandsons; four granddaughters, and one great granddaughter.

Funeral services were held at Second Baptist Church with Dr. Keith Stephenson officiating. Interment followed at Black Mountain Veteran’s Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.
