Joyce “Shortie” Vickers Bell, age 77

Joyce “Shortie” Vickers Bell, age 77, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2012. 

Joyce was born February 18, 1935 in Rutherford County, NC to the late Horace Vickers and Virgie Goode Vickers.  She worked in textiles most of her life and for Reeves Brothers for many years.  She was a former long-time member of Caroleen United Methodist Church and a member of the Spindale Church of the Brethren.  She enjoyed Chicago Cubs baseball, working on puzzles and taking care of her animals.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 40 years, James R. Bell; three brothers, Britt Vickers, Pat Vickers, Grover Vickers and two sisters, Wilma Vickers and Mabel Vassey.

Left to cherish her memory are her one daughter, Sharon B. Guffey and husband, Steve of Rutherfordton. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews, which includes a niece, Carolyn Earley and husband, Leroy and great niece, Anita Earley Higgins and husband, Josh all of Ellenboro.

     Funeral services were conducted at the Caroleen United Methodist Church with Reverend Lucy Robbins and Reverend Perry Jones officiating.  Interment followed in Round Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.      

Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Rutherford County, PO Box 336, Forest City, NC  28043.
