Katelynn “KK” Michelle Gowan, age 6

Katelynn “KK” Michelle Gowan, age 6, of Rutherfordton, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2014.

     Born February 12, 2008 in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of Sonya Gowan Tate and Tony Gowan.  Katelynn was a first grader at Polk Central Elementary School and had a way of touching the heart of all who knew her.  Her happy and loving spirit was contagious. She enjoyed gummy bears and her favorite cartoon character, Minnie Mouse.

     She was preceded in death by maternal great-grandparents, A.Z. and Nannie Murray and Jewell Gurley; paternal great-grandparents, J.M. and Lila Henderson.

     Survivors include her step-mother, Gina Alexander of Rutherfordton; step-father, Norris Tate of Forest City; sister, Maggie Gowan of the home; maternal grandparents, Russell and Reita Higgins of Bostic; paternal grandparents, Allen and Betty Gowan of Rutherfordton; paternal great-grandparents, Eddie and Becky Watkins of Columbus, NC and Elbert Gowan of Boiling Springs, NC; two uncles, Brian Higgins and wife, Michelle and Matthew Gowan; aunt, Katie Hull and husband, Mark; many other great aunts, great uncles and cousins which includes, great aunt, Linda Condrey and husband, Farrell.

     Funeral services were conducted at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Robbie Hensley and Reverend Steven Cooper officiating. Interment followed in Morning Star Baptist Church Cemetery with the Fairview Fire Department of Buncombe County serving as pallbearers.

     Memorial donations are suggested to the National Autism Foundation, One Park Avenue, Suite 1, Portsmouth, RI 02871

Funeral services are being provided by Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services.
