Kay Roberson Blanton, age 75

Kay Roberson Blanton, age 75, of Nebo, NC, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2013.

Born November 10, 1938 in Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late Lewis Roberson and Violet Harris Roberson.  She was a graduate of Cool Springs High School, class of 1956 and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marion.  She was a homemaker who served in many community projects. She was a member of the McDowell County Garden Club where she held the distinction of being a Master Gardener.  She was involved with the McDowell Hospital Auxiliary, Gideons Auxiliary, the Marion Christian Women Organization and a Hospice Volunteer. She was also instrumental in implementing the fundraising effort of the McDowell Hospice.  Kay was truly a servant to her family and to her community.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by son, Jimmy Arthur Blanton, Jr.; brother, Greg Roberson and a son-in-law, John Grant.

Survivors include her husband of fifty-seven years, Jimmy Blanton, Sr.; daughter, Shelley Blanton Grant of Nebo; daughter-in-law, Gail Blanton of Greenville, SC; two brothers, Don Roberson and wife, Pat and Steve Roberson and wife, Becky all of Forest City; two sisters, Gail Garrison of Merles Inlet, SC and Vickie Rich of Bostic. She is also survived by two grandsons, James Grant of Charlotte and William Grant of Fayeteville, NC and granddaughter, Shannon Blanton of Easley, SC.

A memorial service was conducted at the First United Methodist Church of Marion with Reverend Kent Smith officiating. A graveside service was conducted at the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of McDowell County, 575 Airport Road, Marion, NC  28752.

Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services is serving the family.
