After a very successful coat drive last winter, 'Keep Rutherford County Warm' (a group of family and friends) is at it again. This time, they've turned their attention to another need in the county.

"We are hosting a yard sale and food drive to benefit Rutherford County Backpack Program on Saturday, May 5, 2018, beginning at 8:00 am at the Ellenboro Town Wide Yard Sale on Main Street." said Regina Arrowood.

As you may recall, Regina and her family established the 'Keep Rutherford County Warm' initiative in memory of her mother, Pat Parker. Parker was known to be concerned about those in our community whose misfortune left them cold and in need. "We lost our mother a few years ago. She was always thinking about people in need and how she could help. We organized this event in memory of her, with the hope of helping Rutherford County families." said Arrowood.

The Rutherford County Backpack Program packs and sends home food for youth on weekends. The following is a list of recommended food items that you may bring to the yard sale:

Canned Chicken or Tuna, Peanut Butter, Ravioli/Beanie-Weenies/Spaghetti-O's, Vienna Sausages, Canned Fruit (lite-syrup) or multi-pack Fruit Cups, Unsweetened Applesauce, Breakfast Bars (without peanuts), Instant Oatmeal or Grits, Pudding Cups, Canned Soup/Stew/Chili, Crackers-single serve packs, Saltine Crackers, Raisins-single serve boxes, Pretzels-single serve packs, 100% Fruit Rolls, Pop-Tarts, 100% Fruit Juice-single serve boxes, Low-Sugar Cereals, individual-sized boxes, Macaroni and Cheese, boxed or single serve.

The organization requests pop-top cans when possible and asks that you do not bring food in glass containers.

So come on out to the yard sale and bring your donations. By doing so, you continue the legacy of Pat Parker's compassion while providing much needed assistance to young people in the county.
