Laura Elizabeth Stubbing Pocock passed away peacefully on September 15, 2018.

She was born May 23, 1957 to Richard and Patricia Stubbing. She was the loving mother of four daughters, Meaghan, Sarah, Caroline, and Emily, and was a new grandmother to Kamryn James.

Laura was also an attorney, community volunteer, chef extraordinaire, queen of accessories, and a dear friend. Her talents were endless and she shared them generously. At her best, Laura was capable of anything; her love was plentiful and limitless. She affectionately called everyone she met "dear," "babe," or "sweetie," and was endearingly deemed "Laura Beth," "Stubbs," "Mommy," "Momma," and "Mamagirl" by those who loved her most.

Laura was born in Istanbul, Turkey and grew up in Arlington, VA. She was an honored graduate of the University of Virginia and received her law degree from William & Mary Law School. She spent time between her studies backpacking through Europe, where she fell in love with the beautiful waters of Greece. She practiced law in Texas, NY and NC. She lived in Dallas, TX, Manhattan, NY, and Norwalk, CT with David Pocock, her loving husband of many years, and in 1990 they moved to Rutherfordton, NC where they raised their four daughters. Laura's achievements were many, but

one of her proudest was her involvement with KidSenses Interactive Children's Museum in Rutherfordton. Laura was passionate about children's issues, education, and protecting the mountains of North Carolina. She was happiest spending time with her family, hearing live music, and being near water.

She is survived by her four daughters and granddaughter, her mother, Patricia Stubbing, her siblings, David Anthony Stubbing, Mary Pat McDonald, and Matt and Holly Stubbing, many nieces and nephews, extended family members, and close friends who became family to her.

A celebration of life was held at the First United Methodist Church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations may be made in Laura's name to KidSenses Interactive Children's Museum.

McMahan's Funeral Home & Cremation Services is serving the family.
