Lee Tice, 67 years of age, lost his long and courageous battle with Scleroderma on Tuesday, September 3, 2013.

Lee was born November 30, 1945 in Kew Gardens, NY, to the late Rose L. Tice and LeRoy E. Tice, Sr. He was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Greg. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 45 years and soul-mate, Maggie, two sons: Matthew and wife, Rachel (Rutherfordton, NC), Jon and his wife, Hayley (Palm Desert, CA), brothers Michael and Peter and his sister Laurie. Lee is also survived by four grandsons who were the light of his life: Gregory, Grady, Gabriel and Crosby along with numerous loving nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Lee worked for many years as a computer-based trainer and educator, having earned his Bachelor’s Degree in English from St. John’s University in Brooklyn, NY and his Masters in Educational Technology from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. He retired from 18 years of service at New York Life Insurance Company before retiring and moving to North Carolina.

Lee was an avid cook, a teacher, mentor and friend. He loved people, loved life and was an inspiration to all those around him to live it to the fullest. Every day with him was an adventure; he enjoyed creating new recipes, exploring new cultures and learning new things and he challenged his friends and family to do the same. His friends and family were his foundation, and kept him strong even when the terrible effects of his disease weighed heavily on his shoulders.

A memorial service is planned for a later date.

The family is asking In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Foundation for the Department of Medicine and the Division of Rheumatology for Scleroderma Research, 18 Bee Street, MSC 450, Charleston, S.C. 29425, (843) 792-2677
