Lena Mae Toms Watson, age 90

Lena Mae Toms Watson, age 90, a former resident of the Shiloh Community, passed away Friday, November 21, 2014.  

Mrs. Watson was born on July 15, 1924 in Rutherford County and was the daughter of the late Philip Gordon Toms and Lillie Randall Toms. She was a graduate of Harris High School and was a member at Shiloh Baptist Church.  Along with her husband, she was the co-owner and operator of Watson’s Store in the Shiloh community for 35 years.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Watson and brother, A.G. Toms.Survivors include her son, Eddy Watson of Rutherfordton, NC; daughter, Wanda Watson and companion, Mike Padgett of Forest City; granddaughter, Kara Clemons and husband Josh of Blacksburg, VA; a great-grandchild, Ellena Mae Clemons who is named for her great-grandmother,  brother-in-law Floyd Watson of Gaffney; sisters-in-law Doris Hardin and husband Wilbur of Shiloh and Opal Packard of Mooresboro;  and a number of nieces and nephews.Funeral services were held at Shiloh Baptist Church with Reverend Donald Crawford and Reverend Dr. Clay Smith officiating. Memorials may be made to Shiloh Baptist Church, Benevolent Fund, 1851 Poors Ford Road, Rutherfordton, NC 28139 or Rutherford County Humane Society, PO Box 998, Rutherfordton, NC 28139.
