Lennis McAbee Flynn, age 71, of Lincolnton and formerly of Forest City, passed away July 24, 2016.

Born April 24, 1945 in Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Annie Smith McAbee. Working as a nurse for many years in both hospital and nursing home settings, Lennis was known for her understanding and kindness. Later, she also worked with Hospice of Rutherford County and was always deeply committed to the comfort and care of her patients and their families.

Lennis enjoyed reading, games, and Coca Cola (later Pepsi Max). Sought after for her advice, she was fascinated by psychology, medicine, and human relations. She also enjoyed many lunchtime cheeseburgers with friends and family during her decade-long stay at the Heath House.

She is survived by her son, Roger McMinn, of Lincolnton, daughter Janet McMinn, of Forest City, and a grandson of Charlotte. She is also survived by her siblings Rick McAbee and Rhonda Coffey, both of Forest City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vance Flynn; brothers Ed McAbee, Bobby McAbee, Kenneth McAbee, and Jerry McAbee. Her sister Ramona Freeman also preceded her in death.

Special thanks to Brenda Stubbs, Becky Engle, Wendy Martin, and the staff of Heath House for their kind concern and support of Lennis over the years.

Private services were held at Harrelson Funeral home in Forest City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of Rutherford County, PO Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043 or to the charity of choice.
