Leon M. Bailey, age 64

Leon M. Bailey, age 64, of Rutherfordton, passed away Friday, December 23, 2016.

Born September 11, 1952 in Rutherford County, he was a son to the late Pharis Matthew Bailey and Annie Florence Whitesides Bailey. He was a graduate of Chase High School, class of 1970 and worked as a supervisor for Watts Regulator for many years. Leon loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed cutting grass.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Poplin Bailey; three sisters, Elizabeth Martin, Gertrude Maney, Carolyn Cooper and one brother, Adin Bailey.

Survivors include daughter, Melissa Bailey of Winston-Salem; son, Andy Bailey of Morganton; step-daughter, Cynthia Brewington of Oklahoma; step-son, Marvin Poplin of Fairview, NC; two brothers, Hix Bailey and wife, Shirley of Rutherfordton and Harold Bailey of Conover, NC; one sister, Janis McSwain of Rutherfordton. He is also survived by six grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was conducted at the Pores Ford Baptist Church with Reverend Leroy Bridges officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
