In keeping with the outstanding spirit of the school, volunteer graduates have put together a 50 year all class celebration for East Rutherford High School. It all happens on Saturday, September 21 from 1 p.m to 10 p.m.

If you have been a part of East Rutherford High School, staff, student or fan, you are welcome to this big celebration. There is a crowd of 2500 to 3000 expected to participate in the event. East Rutherford High School students and graduates from all over the country will be coming to downtown Forest City at Florence Mill Park on Mill Street. It’s all free! The event also includes all Cool Springs High graduates.

The idea took hold when a East Rutherford graduate, who is now Dr. Janet Mason, Rutherford County Superintendent of Schools made the suggestion to a fellow classmate and class president, Randy Herring. They both graduated from East Rutherford High School. Together with a group of 1983 classmates, the celebration was planned and has exploded into a great day of remembrance.

Typical of the winning ways that have been a part of East Rutherford High School since its’ beginning in 1963, everybody connected to East jumped in to help make it happen. They posted it on Facebook and got 3000 hits. The committee has constantly sent out post cards inviting every Cavalier to come and celebrate 50 years of outstanding achievements. Everywhere you go in Rutherford County you are likely to find a loyal East Rutherford High School graduate contributing to the good of the county. The school is known for its’ outstanding school spirit and winning ways, both in academics and sports.

On Saturday, the event will include constant music provided by yet another East graduate, Keith Early of Sound Connection. He has planned to play 15 minute clusters of period music for the fifty years. It should bring back a lot of memories for those in attendance. There will also be tents representing each decade where you can meet and greet. Danielle Withrow, herself a graduate of East (‘66), now Forest City town planner and downtown development director, can’t say enough good things about the event. “It is typical of the overwhelming school spirit that has been the cornerstone of this great one of a kind school.” Food vendors will be there and stores and restaurants on Main Street will stay open to accommodate guests.

At 1 p.m. the award winning East Rutherford High School band will kick off the event as they march into downtown Forest City and perform their “Show for the Season.” Opening remarks will be by the lady who started it all, Dr. Janet Mason, (class of ‘83).  All day long guest speakers will add brief remarks and memories of their very special school. Yes, there will also be dancing in the streets!

The event will be a display of what has made East Rutherford High School one of the best and a school that continually graduates very high achievers.
