The high school football playoffs are here and just two teams of the four in Rutherford County make it to the postseason. TJCA is in the 1A and R-S Central makes the 2AA.

Thomas Jefferson (9-2) is hosting an opening round playoff game for the fifth year in a row as Bishop McGuniess (4-7) comes to Avondale this Friday (November 18).

The Villains' Peter Ingle has thrown for 3000 yards and rushed for over 400 more to account for 45 touchdowns. The Villains problem is simple...they score 31 a game and give up 37.

Thomas Jefferson's two dependable players in quarterback Nomi McMullens and running back Bill Lay have accounted for 47 combined touchdowns this season. The Gryphons defense has also played much better down the stretch by allowing just 42 points in the last four games combined.

R-S Central (5-6) will have Wilkes Central (9-2) on the road Friday as suspected a week ago.

The biggest problem R-S Central may have is how to deal with Wilkes Central's Justin Parsons. Parsons already has 1824 yards rushing and 27 touchdowns off 207 carries. Parsons is evasive and speedy. Camden Wyatt can also throw the pigskin as he has nearly 1500 yards and 15 touchdowns this year.

The Hilltoppers could have seven or eight wins now, but have failed to seal the deal in the last two games. The Hilltoppers have been pretty solid defensively all year and in seven games this season, they have allowed seven points or less.

Chase continued it's quest for a 2A state title on the soccer field this past week as the guys defeated Eastern Randolph, Forest Hills, Shelby and Franklin. Should they beat Lake Norman Charter in the West finals, it's onto Raleigh for the state title game at N.C. State! Good Luck to the Trojans.

Thomas Jefferson was rolling as they took care of West Montgomery, Woods Charter and then No.1 seed Starmount. Unfortunately, it came to an end when they lost 3-0 to Community School of Davidson.

Just one race remains in NASCAR for the year. The Championship comes down to Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards, Joey Logano and Kyle Busch. Jimmie Johnson has won six and Kyle Busch won last year. Joey Logano was the favorite to win a year ago until the crash at Martinsville and Carl Edwards was overtaken by Tony Stewart in 2011 for the title. Edwards hasn't run as strong as the other three left remaining in "The Chase."

I just believe it will be Joey Logano who wins, but I could see Johnson or Busch winning it all. Remember, finish better then the other three and that is who the champ becomes. With Matt Kenseth crashing as he held the lead at Phoenix, you have to feel somewhat bad for the guy. It's the second year in a row he has had that happen.

As for an NFL or College Football top five of the week...Good Luck!!! Both have been shaken up after last week's action. Maybe next week, I have will have better idea.

Alabama is certainly No.1 in college football, but after that...it's all messed up.

In the NFL, the Patriots just lost at home, Houston has six wins, the Rams have four!!! Nobody may win the NFC North. As for Houston they have one problem and that is Tennessee. The Titans have won four of their six and the odd-on favorite to now take the AFC South. The Panthers must win out if they are even going to make playoffs, but even that might not get them in. Carolina has lost three halftime leads this season and four games by three points or less.
