The slogan for this year's Girl Scout Cookie Sale was "Lead the Change" - and Girl Scouts in Rutherford County did just that. Cookie sales for Rutherford County totaled more than 29,000 boxes, which was an 11 percent increase from the previous year. Proceeds from this widespread fundraiser are split among the Peaks to Piedmont Council, the Service Unit of Rutherford County and the local troops.

Top sellers were celebrated on April 28, along with Girl Scout leaders, during Leader's Appreciation night.

Leading the county in sales was Meghan Melton. Meghan, with troop 01972, has been a Girl Scout for six years and sold 739 boxes this year. Meghan attributes her success to the help of family, her church and local businesses. Meghan states that her favorite part of selling cookies is sorting and organizing the cookie varieties to help her maintain an adequate inventory for her sales. Meghan plans to use her troop proceeds from her sales for a long term goal of going to Europe in 2017 to see two of the five Girl Scout World Centers.

AnnaGrace Winn is a third year scout of troop 01972 and a veteran high cookie seller. AnnaGrace sold 666 boxes this year. AnnaGrace enjoys seeing peoples' excitement when cookie selling season arrives. She uses her business skills to contact previous customers and plans to use her troop proceeds to visit Savannah Georgia in June. While there she will tour the home of Juliette Gordon Low, founder of Girl Scouts, visit the Tybee Island lighthouse and enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride through historical downtown Savannah with 14 other troop members.

Antenice Mosely is a first year Brownie Scout with troop 02029. Antenice used her people skills to sell 606 boxes. With her troop proceeds Antenice plans to join her troop on a trip to Old Salem this summer.

The Service Unit proceeds generated from this year's cookie sales are being used to fund a summer day camp for girls titled "Fairyland. Day Camp is an opportunity for girls to begin their Girl Scout journey or continue with old friends while on summer break.

A week long session of fun activities, discovering friendships and outdoor activities awaits. Eligible ages are rising first grade to rising sixth grade.
