High School Baseball update:

R-S Central: Still undefeated at 6-0, scoring 50 run and allowing 10 so far.

Chase (1-5): They are scoring, but pitching and defense has been the trouble so far.

East Rutherford (2-4): Shocking upset as they lost to Shelby, but they may have come alive after drubbing East Gaston this past Friday.

High School Softball Update

R-S Central (6-1, 5-0): They continue to roll through Southwestern 2A play and host East Rutherford, Friday, March 22.

Chase (4-2, 3-2): Hitting the ball well and allowed more than two runs just twice so far.

East Rutherford (5-2, 3-2): Have won two in a row with a pretty good infield and quite possibly the most underestimated catcher in the league in Christian Cooper.

NCAA Tourney

March Madness has lived up to the hype. Very few were safe picks this past weekend. Who would have thought UMBC would beat Virginia, even with the Cavalier's sixth man breaking his wrist before the tourney started. If I had to re-pick after watching what I have seen...here it is and prepared to be shocked.

Michigan St. and UNC are done. I thought both were destined for at least Sweet 16, if not picking up another National Title. As for who is left now that my bracket is busted as well.

In the South, I like Kentucky and Nevada meeting, with Kentucky going to the Final Four.

In the East, I like the winner of the West Virginia-Villanova matchup and I believe it to be Villanova because WVU's Jevon Carter can't guard all of Nova's perimeter threats.

In the West, I will take Texas A&M over Gonzaga against my better judgment. Considering how balanced the Aggies looked over UNC, I have to go that route even with Gonzaga's positive postseason record.

In the Midwest, Clemson has been a great story considering they lost Donte Grantham in the final weeks of the regular season. They honestly can beat Kansas, but Kansas find a way with a home court advantage to play Duke. I like Duke overall in the Midwest.

So, Texas A&M plays Kentucky and Villanova takes on Duke. I originally have Villanova winning it all and I am still thinking that's a very good possibility, but I like Duke and Texas A&M with their size and defense with A&M winning it all. Guess what though....I am probably going to be wrong! This postseason has been so odd, why not throw an unlikely odds-maker into the ring of fire.

Martinsville

Well, it's back to short track racing at the Martinsville Speedway this coming weekend. So far, it had been the Kevin Harvick Series in winning three of the first four events. Last weekend, the streak was broken after Harvick made a mistake and wrecked himself out of contention for a fourth straight win. Martin Truex Jr. got the win in California and is a major threat this coming weekend as well.

Kyle Busch, Brad Keselowski, Denny Hamlin, Harvick and Jimmie Johnson are all past winners and normally past winners repeat. Aric Almirola, Clint Bowyer and Ryan Blaney are sleepers in this one and have never won at Martinsville. I am going out on a limb and picking Chase Elliott to get his first Martinsville win this Sunday. In the last two spring races, the winners notched their first Martinsville victories of their careers...Kyle Busch and Keselowski.
