Lorena Lancaster Scruggs, age 94

Lorena Lancaster Scruggs, age 94, of Forest City, passed away on Monday, January 11, 2016.

Born April 25, 1921 in Rutherford County, she was a daughter to the late Crawford Lancaster and Mary Flo McDaniel Lancaster. She was a graduate of Cool Springs High School, class of 1939 and worked in textiles for forty years. She worked for Field Crest Mill-Alexander Plant and Burlington Industries-Caroleen Plant. Lorena was a faithful member of Floyd's Creek Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and served in the Homebound Ministry with her late husband, James. She enjoyed growing flowers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-six years, James W. Scruggs, Sr.; son, James W. Scruggs, Jr.; sister, Mozelle Street; two brothers, Bill and Charles Lancaster and granddaughter, Susan Cole.

She is survived by two sons, Edwin Scruggs and wife, Lois of Forest City and Stephen Scruggs and wife, Rhonda of Cliffside; daughter, Barbara Cole and husband, Jimmy of Forest City; daughter-in-law, Sylvia Scruggs of Forest City; two sisters, Margaret Pettus of Longs, SC and Hazel Moore of Forest City. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at the Floyd's Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Robert Carnell and Reverend Shane Kirby officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Memorial donations are requested to Floyd's Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 2004 Chase High Road, Forest City, NC 28043.

Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services has been entrusted with arrangements.
