Luther “Neal” Shelton, age 70

Luther “Neal” Shelton, age 70, of Rutherfordton, went to be with the Lord Saturday December 7, 2013. 

Neal was a native of Danville, Va., retired from PPG, a member of Main Street Baptist Church, an avid deer hunter and classic car enthusiast as well as a proud veteran of the US Marine Corps.

Neal was preceded in death by his parents William and Ethel Everhart Shelton and a grandson David Shelton.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife Margaret Roach Shelton of the home; children Diane (Robbie) Lail of Forest City, Neal “Bonehead” (Barbara) Shelton of Forest City, William (Liz) Shelton of Chesnee, Ronald (Gena) Shelton of Spindale, Lisa Atchley of Rutherfordton, and Perry (Briggett) Shelton of Union Mills; two children by a previous marriage Luther Shelton of Sutherlin, Va. And Tommy (Jeanette) Shelton of Keeling, Va.; a brother David Shelton of Providence, NC and sisters Barbara Johnson of Danville, Va. and Ruth Smith of Haines City, Fl.; 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Main Street Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rick Brewer officiating. Burial followed in the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Rutherford County Veterans Honor Guard. A special thanks to aunt Janet Reid and Uncle NJ and Troy Roach.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Rutherford County or to Main Street Baptist Church Building Fund.
