Martha Burns Freeman, 77, of Georgia, formerly of Ellenboro, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2015.

A native of Rutherford County, she was born on October 16, 1937, a daughter of the late Clarence and Nannie Mae Helton Burns.  She was a retired public school teacher having retired from Ellenboro Elementary School. She was a member of Ellenboro Presbyterian Church, a graduate of Carson Newman College and loved to play the piano and organ.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Miller Freeman; two brothers, James Burns and Kenneth Burns. She is survived by her son, Dr. Jack Miller Freeman, Jr., M.D. and wife Andrea of Cumming, Georgia; her grandchildren, Cory Cronin, Christian Grantham, Luke Russell and Andrew Freeman.

Funeral services were held at Ellenboro Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Bill Kirk officiating. Burial followed in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

McKinney-Landreth & Carroll Funeral and Cremation Service is serving the Freeman family.
