Max Burgess, age 85

Max Burgess, age 85, of Henrietta, NC, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014.

Born August 27, 1928 in Rutherford County, NC, he was a son of the late Grover Burgess and Jeanette Gibson Burgess.  He was a graduate of Tri-High School and a veteran of the US Army having served in the Korean War. Max worked for Bell South Communications for over thirty-three years before retiring. He was a faithful servant of the Lord and a longtime member of Floyd’s Creek Baptist Church.  He also was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball and Duke Basketball fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Kenny Burgess; four brothers, John Burgess, J.P. Burgess, Joe Burgess and Marshall Burgess; four sisters, Frances Wheeler, Genelle Greene, Mary Patterson and Margaret Greene.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Helen Beason Burgess; son, Gregg Burgess and wife, Dixie of Forest City; daughter, Lisa Melton and husband, Gary of Bostic; five grandchildren, Stacy Chapman, Amy Warlick, Anna Burgess, Patti Burgess and Taylor Burgess and six great-granchildren. He is also survived by two special friends, Tracy Allred and Jimmy Tate.

Funeral services were conducted at Floyd’s Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Robert Carnell, Reverend Robert Biggerstaff and Reverend Shane Kirby officiating.  Interment followed at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.
