The General Manager and PGA Golf Pro, William Deck II, loves the 18 hole course which offers challenges, peace and tranquility.

One of the golfers who comes often to Meadowbrook Golf Club seems to describe the club best when he says “it’s one of the best in this part of the country, hands down! All the people here are just wonderful.”

This golf club is celebrating 50 years and has come a long way since 1963. At that time, Kenneth Deck told his brother, Carson that he thought that establishing a golf club on the family farm and pastures, “just wouldn’t work”. Finally, when Carson told his brother he’d buy him out because be believed it would work, Kenneth said “well, alright I’ll go in with you.” The golf architect, William B. Lewis of Pickens was hired and Meadowbrook Golf Club opened in 1963. Carson had become a golf enthusiast because of Arnold Palmer. Because of him, Carson learned the game of golf and never looked back. To celebrate the 50th year, his son, now General Manager William Deck, II is offering a $19.63 greens fee. Dad would be proud!

Meadowbrook Golf Club is quiet, peaceful and very relaxing in its country setting. It’s acres and acres of greenery defy the conventional golf courses that are surrounded by traffic and a lot of noises. The Golf Pro and General Manager for the last 20 years is William Henry Deck, II, named after his grandfather. William Deck was 10 years old when Meadowbrook opened. He graduated from Appalachian State University in 1975, was on Apps winning golf team (Southern Conference Champs for two years) and became a PGA professional in 1979. He ran some of the most prestigious golf courses in the country and at the family’s request returned to Meadowbrook 20 years ago in 1993 to run Meadowbrook. The thoughtful, considerate manner in which Meadowbrook is now run is indicated by the free ice and water which sits on the left of the front door. For William Deck it’s not just about golf, but about a caring community where golfers come to play. He knows all members by their first name.

Meadowbrook encompasses 120 acres and as William Deck will say, “presently, you might say, we’re a  golf course that offers a great value.” His main concentration is not just about the family owned golf course, but now about Carolina Hills at Meadowbrook!

He is developing “the community of choice in Rutherford and Polk county.” Carolina Hills at Meadowbrook which is clustered around the rolling hills and gentle creeks of the old family farm is being developed as a brand new community. The conceptional master plan is HUD approved and includes parks, a playground, custom lots, patio homes and even a gated community. Recreational facilities and a swimming pool are also included.

With all due humility, William Deck says: “It might just be one of the best retirement communities being developed on the Southeast Coast!” Without a doubt, the direction being taken by Carolina Hills at Meadowbrook is very appealing and bodes well for a great place to live, recreate and play golf! Caution: It is so peaceful and clutter free of noises, that you might just be lured to sleep in your golf  cart by the 7th or 8th hole on the golf course.
