His name is Forrest Clark Poole. He goes by his middle name, Clark. However, since becoming the new Director of the Rutherford Chamber of Commerce, he might start going by his first name. He’s up and running! “Run Forrest Run!” seems more appropriate for a man who came out of retirement and doesn’t intend to sit behind a desk.

Clark Poole is a people person and spent 28 years in sales before retiring in 2008. His job description required him to deal with a panorama of personalities. From every phase of life, he was required to help people in their jobs. One of his greatest assets, is that he enjoys  “one on ones” and loves to listen. He’ll spend time listening to anyone.

Since being selected as the new Director of the Rutherford Chamber of Commerce by the 15 member Board of Directors, Clark Poole can’t wait everyday to get out “preach the gospel of the county!” His eyes glisten as he declares: “Rutherford County is about to explode! There is no doubt in my mind that nothing but good things are about to happen in our county. Everyone needs to believe that this will happen. When we all believe, we can achieve!”

He sees the selection of Rutherford County by Facebook and now, the Horsehead Corporation as an amazing asset and total vindication that those with unlimited funds and the where-for-all and in depth studies, came to the realization that Rutherford County was the place to be. Both throughout the nation and even world wide, their choosing this location is testimony to fact that this county is a geographic plus and its’ people are some of the best and most dedicated working class you can find anywhere! It is a magnificent salute to Rutherford County and its’ people.

Clark Poole will emphatically state that, without question, Rutherford County is the “total package”. “Sure there has been difficult times and hard times since the mills left, but everyone in this great county needs to realize and continue to celebrate what this county has to offer. We have to stay positive and continue on the path of achievement. An important part of that is our citizens need to realize what great opportunities await them and what a great future they are about to have. Also, the youth of our county need to stay here, live here and be the future lifeline of Rutherford County. Without them, we go no where! “

After spending some time with Clark Poole, you quickly learn that he loves the “big guys coming our way” but gets very enthusiastic about “the little guys” who are establishing businesses here. He celebrates each employee they add. “The small businesses are and always have been the backbone of our country. All the “little guys” make us great.”

His 28 years in sales seems to have prepared this new Director of the Chamber very well. He loves to get out and about listening to people and seeing what he can do to help. He wants their input and is probably spending more time introducing himself and asking questions than a politician running for office. “Run Forrest Run!” seems most appropriate for a person who loves Rutherford County and wants to see the county and its’ great people get what they deserve. He believes it and wants to do everything he can to make it happen. He’s convinced it will happen soon and if a positive attitude is the answer, then Forrest Clark Poole is well on his way.

He has been married to Theresa for 42 years and they have a set of twins named Bill and Allyson. Both have now graduated from college and are working in their career choices. He is also the proud grandfather of William, his daughter’s child.

When I asked him what his greatest achievement was he said: “The most gratifying achievement in my life was earning the respect of my family and employees by helping them know that as a team we could achieve any goal we set.”

As the new Director , (“forget about the title, just call me Clark”), he’ll tell you he came out of retirement because he wanted to help people achieve a goal and, one more time, “blow up balloons and celebrate!” This man obviously loves a parade!
