Michael Wayne Gilbert, age 69

Michael Wayne Gilbert, age 69 of Forest City, passed away Tuesday March 28, 2017.

Mike was born April 6, 1947 in Rutherfordton. He was a general contractor and owner of A&G Construction Co. He was very active in the NRA and Gun Club of Bostic. Mike was a member of Spencer Baptist Church. He graduated from RS Central in 1965 and from Lenoir Rhyne University in 1970 with Physical Education Degree and later received his Master in Education. For many years he served on the Board of Home Builders Association of Rutherford County. Mike was an avid fisherman at the Outer Banks and enjoyed the sport of shooting with his friends. There are many homes and commercial buildings in the area that bear his handprint of distinct building skills.

In addition to his parents, J.M. and Peggy Gilbert; he was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Susan Placak Gilbert; an infant son Jonathan. Survivors include two daughters Amy Gilbert Beheler and husband Todd of Gilkey; Jana Gilbert Nelson and husband David of Rutherfordton. Two grandchildren and two step grandsons. Three sisters, Cindy Gilbert Wilkerson and husband Roger of Rutherfordton; Dee Gilbert Snyder and husband Ted of Terrell, NC; Margaret Gilbert Dover and husband Kenny of Rutherfordton.

Celebration of Life was held in the Family Life Center of Spencer Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Caldwell officiating. Memorial donations can be sent to Hospice of Rutherfordton. POB 336 Forest City, NC 28043.
