Mike "Smiley" Weathers, age 63

Mike "Smiley" Weathers, age 63, of Spindale, formerly of Harris, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2019.

Mike was born January 3, 1956 in Rutherford County to Buddy Weathers who resides in Cliffside and the late Elsie Jones Weathers. He was a graduate of Chase High School, class of 1974 and was a proud graduate of Isothermal Community College. Mike worked for Cone Mills for thirty years where he served as the Safety and Maintenance Supervisor. He was much admired by all his peers and co-workers. He later worked for Viscotec in Morganton and Horsehead Industries. Mike was an accomplished welder, electrician and plumber and was always willing to go above and beyond to help his family, friends and community with any project, large or small. Because of his keen sense of humor, Mike was known as "Smiley" by all who knew him. He was a compassionate, kind and honorable man who loved his family and friends dearly. Mike was always willing to assist in any community project and was a faithful blood donor to the American Red Cross. He made a difference in every life he touched.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife of forty-two years, Cynthia Ann Moore Weathers and mother-in-law, Annie Mae Tate Moore.

Besides his father, those left to cherish his memory include a daughter, Dr. Mary Lela Weathers Miller and husband, Derick of Springfield, Virginia; two brothers, Ron Weathers of Pittsboro, NC and Terry Weathers of Cliffside; sister, Sandra Weathers of Mt. Pleasant, SC; uncle, Bert Weathers of Lattimore, NC; aunt, Nancy Mitchell of Charlotte and a special sister-in-law, Sandra Moore Stewart and husband, Robert of Harris, NC and a host of friends.

A celebration of life will be conducted on a later date.
