Mrs. Adelaide Hawkins Humphries, 99, of the Grassy Pond Community, passed away on January 02, 2013. For the past 5 years, she has resided at Magnolia’s Assisted Care of Gaffney. She was the widow of Bobby Humphries. 

She was the daughter of the late Grover and Lizzie Holland Hawkins of Rutherford County. She attended Asheville Teachers College, graduated from Limestone College, and was a retired Elementary School Teacher. Until her declining health, she was an active member of Grassy Pond Baptist Church, DAR, Eastern Star, and the Retired Teachers’ Association. She enjoyed traveling, playing the piano, and keeping up with current events. 

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brother, Grover Glenn Hawkins; one sister, Ehtel Hawkins Wilkins; one grandson, Troy Brent Humphries. She is survived by her sons, Bobby V. Humphries of Gaffney and Grover Humphries and wife Linda of Greenville; one daughter, Rhonda Humphries Grimes and husband Mike of West Columbia; three grandchildren, Jason Humphries of Greenville, Keri Humphries Wise and husband Josh of Lexington, Katie Grimes Richardson and husband Joseph of Blythewood; three great-grandchildren, Landon and Kaylee Wise and Bobby Richardson. 

The family expresses sincere gratitude and thankfulness to her special caregiver, Betty Copeland; they would also like to thank the staff of Magnolias of Gaffney and Dr. Ribadeneyra and the staff at Shelby Medical Associates. 

Funeral services were held at the A.C. McKinney Memorial Chapel. Burial followed at Fredrick Memorial Gardens, Gaffney, SC. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Grassy Pond Baptist Church, 254 Grassy Pond Road, Gaffney, SC 29341 or New Heights Baptist Church, 115 Ellis Ferry Road, Gaffney, SC 29341.
