Mrs. Frances Jackson Hamrick, age 93

Mrs. Frances Jackson Hamrick, age 93, formerly of Ellenboro, and a resident of Oakland Living Center, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015.

Born in Surry County, NC, she was a daughter of the late John Lafayette Jackson and Mattie Lee Hunter Jackson, and widow of the late Emmett Granville Hamrick, who died in 1993. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Redman. Mrs. Hamrick was a graduate of Westfield High School and Appalachian State Teachers College. She spent her entire teaching career in the Rutherford County School System having taught at Ellenboro High School, Mt. Vernon High School, Tri High School, and retired as librarian of Chase High School. Mrs. Hamrick was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher of the Ruth class for fifty years and as church librarian for twenty eight years. She was also a past-president of the Ellenboro Woman's Club, served as an alderman for the Town of Ellenboro from 1987 to 2001 and volunteered at Ellenboro Elementary School and Rutherford Hospital.

Survivors include her son, Phil Hamrick and wife Fredia of Ellenboro, NC; three daughters, Glenda Davis and husband James of Ellenboro, NC, Jane Duncan and husband Sonny of Bostic, NC, and Susan Sisk and husband Fred of Ellenboro; two sisters, Laura Virginia Robinson of Forest City, NC and Juanita Hicks of Winston-Salem, NC; nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the Bethel Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Sepaugh and Reverend Dr. Wayne Blackwood officiating. Interment followed the service in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church Land Fund or to the ministry of choice at Bethel Baptist Church, 479 Main Street, Ellenboro, NC 28040.
