Myron Thomas "Mike" Rhyne, age 69 of Ellenboro, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016.

Born September 20, 1946 in Rutherford County, he was the youngest of seven children of the late Joseph Lamar Rhyne and Elizabeth Byers Griffin Rhyne.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Patricia Frasheur Rhyne in 2015, a sister, Betty Blair Rhyne Owens, and three brothers, William Q. Rhyne, Joseph L. "Joe" Rhyne and Robert F. "Bob" Rhyne.

Mike was a 1964 Graduate of East Rutherford High School. He served two years with the US Army in Korea. He completed a Bachelors and Masters in Textile Engineering at NC State University in 1973. He worked for 33 years as a textile engineer primarily with Huyck-Formex and Weavexx based out of Wake Forest, NC. Near the end of his career he worked in regional sales across the Southeast. He returned to Rutherford County in 1998 and became very active in the community. Mike was serving his second term as an Alderman for the town of Ellenboro. He was organizer of the Ellenboro Depot Museum and was regularly seen on the dock welcoming visitors. He also served for several years as organizer of Big Day in Ellenboro, the Ellenboro Fiddler's Convention, and was a member of the Ellenboro Fair Committee. He was an active member of the Rutherford County Sons of the American Revolution.

Surviving are two sons, the Reverend Michael L. Rhyne, Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, his wife Karen of Hollidaysburg, PA and Erik Trevor Rhyne of Ellenboro, NC; three grandchildren; two brothers, John Griffin Rhyne of Mooresville, NC and James Chivas Rhyne of Ellenboro. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held in The Padgett and King Chapel with his son, the Reverend Michael L. Rhyne, the Reverend Dr. Bobby Gantt and the Reverend Jonathan Schnibben officiating. A family committal service was held in the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The Padgett & King Mortuary is serving the family.
